PKM ONE April Newsletter

Yo! PKM Friends,

I increased my writing output this month thanks to my shiny new writing app called iA Writer; I love its elegant design and distraction-free writing experience. I also feel I have almost tripled my productivity by switching to SigmaOS browser; again, if you are unhappy with your browser, I cannot recommend this browser enough. Yes, it has a generous free plan.

Announcement - My new service offering

A lot of people ask me which tool they should use. Since I do keep trying many apps, I thought I would make this my core service. I will help people find the appropriate tools. So I redesigned the PKM ONE website.

List of PKM creators to follow

I was surprised to find my handle being recommended in this tweet about PKM creators to follow. I am a novice compared to the others on the list. But everyone has a space in the PKM vertical. This is a great thread if you are wondering which PKM creators to follow.

Listing Tools Experts

Do we have a directory to match tools with the expert? Suppose you want to scale up your logseq or Obsidian game, so which expert should one go to? I asked on Twitter the same question, but I don’t have many responses. I am contemplating building a resource with something like Softr.io.[^Feel free to steal this idea, or if you want to collaborate, drop me an email at manoj@pkm.one, of course, you need to have no code skills or marketing and business skills]

Urgent - I am looking for a job

My biggest client is facing a tough time, as planned, and I want to relieve him by offloading myself, and I am looking for some work rather urgently. Let me know if you need a guy in India who can do some work for you. In case you want to know more about me, visit my website at manojnayak.com

Articles I wrote last month.

The Text Editor with Superpowers — Org-mode beats Markdown any day.

The highlight of last month was discovering emacs org-mode. I love using org-mode to manage my projects. Something about it clicks for me. There is a learning curve, but thanks to Microsoft’s Bing chat AI, I learned most of the basics over a weekend. Read more.

If you want to learn — create systems; if you want to earn — accomplish goals.

Of course, the cliche debate on “systems vs. goals” for learning and I tried to articulate why systems win didn’t go well. Read more.

The five-second rule for writer’s block

This is my rule for creative writing. Creative writing is inspiration driven. If you get an idea, write it down, at least five hundred words or as long as possible, before that inspiration disappears. Read more.

The theme of this newsletter is Carl Pullien’s Time Sector method of personal task management. If your todo application fills you with dread, I highly recommend you learn about the time sector method. After learning and now practising this method for over a week, I am wondering why no one before had thought of this. GTD is outdated!!! I am now ready to settle down and marry my note-taking app. I was also considering what an ideal note-taking application should be and asked Twitter what they...
